Welcome
to Irje Dennis'
website. I design and make funky fork jewelers. The idea of the
is to create and bring new functions for the fork.
The story behind the whole concept is rather amusing. One fine day in
2001 I was at a friend's summer cottage, on an island in Finland. We
were having a barbeque on an open fire and suddenly my stainless steel
fork fell into the fire. The fork became black but also rather flexible.
I tried to bend it into a ring but it did not work out, as the steel
was too hard.
Consequently I started to ask people around me for a name for my fork
emporium, thus was
born.
Later on I managed to find beautiful forks suitable for bending and
created these unique bracelets and more…
Bracelets are made
from silver plated forks. Due to the shape of the fork bracelet it is
possible to bend apart each end slightly to fit it on to the wrist.
I make fork bracelets, fish knife bracelets and pendants from the handles
of cutlery which can also be used as serviette holders.
Every fork
is different and not only for its patterns but its history. You may
see the history from the fork’s hallmarks, which the original
maker has engraved upon it. Still the
Bracelets are almost antique and as a result it hard to interpret the
hallmarks from time to time.
Today these forks have found a new meaning and that is to decorate its
owner’s wrist.
I am constantly discovering new ways to use forks. One of my creations
is the Stand which
is a symbiosis of silver plated desert forks and wood. Stand
has many uses as it can be a menu stand at home or in a restaurant or
it can be used for holding cards or photographs.
One way to use the cutlery is using own distinctively marked cutlery
and I may be able to use them to make bracelets, pendants or serviette
holders, depending on the hardness of the metal.
